It’s important to recognize that providing both  primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care to  individuals with special health care needs is an integral part of the specialty  of pediatric dentistry and dental community in general.  The purpose of this update course is discuss  the common situations in patients receiving dental treatment in OR, and review  the management of patients with hydrocephalia and clef lip and palate. Also,  recognizing the importance of diagnosis and treatment necessary to maintain the  oral health of children and adolescent, the management and treatment of  patients with dentoalveolar anterior crossbites in primary and mixed dentitions  will be covered.

Course  Objectives Upon  completion of the educational activity, participants will:
  • Know the common situations in patients receiving dental treatment in the operating room.
  • Familiarize with recommendations for prevention and monitoring protocol recommended  for these patients.
  • Observe  a case of dental management of a patient with hydrocephalia.
  • Know the condition of cleft and palate and dental management of these patients.
  • Observe the multidisciplinary treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate.
  • Define  what is mean by anterior crossbite.
  • Identify  when an anterior crossbite should be treated.
  • Know the difference between skeletal vs. dental crossbite.
  • Understand the different passive and active appliances for the correction of an anterior crossbite.
  • Discuss the clinical management of the Protraction Face Mask for anterior crossbite correction.
