López Dr. Ana N. López – is Dean of the School of Dental Medicine, Medical Sciences Campus. She has a Public Health Master’s degree and Fellowship in Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM). She is a Member of OSAP “Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures”, since 1992 and has been offering advice to private dentists in this field. She created and is currently the Infection Control Course Coordinator and consultant in this field at the School of Dental Medicine. She has served as an advisor on Infection Control issues for different institutions in and outside Puerto Rico. Dr. López is also the “Woman Liaison Officer” to the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and serves in various committees in this association, representing the School of Dental Medicine. Course Description and Objectives Among the topics to be discussed, you will find:
- P.R. Department of Health – Administrative Order #74
- Dr. Ana N. López will go into all the details of this Administrative Order to which we must comply.
- Infectious diseases and their prevention: Signs and symptoms of the different diseases will be presented together with recommendations on their prevention.
- The latest trends in infection control will be presented, and how to comply with the latest CDC, OSHA, EPA recommendations. Trends in how to incorporate ecofriendly activities in the dental practice in compliance with infection control will be addressed.
- Aseptic techniques and standard precautions used in our private practices.
- Dr. López will review the most common issues in compliance with the office protocols such as:
- Sharp objects and biomedical waste management
- Steps in decontaminations and sterilization of items
- The importance of standard precautions will be addressed
